Charleston Home Builders Association(CHBA) is committed to the future of the Lowcountry through strengthening the local housing industry’s workforce with skilled construction tradesmen & women. CHBA has set up a scholarship to support Wando High School students interested in continuing their education in the Construction Trade field.
The scholarship is based on a Small Home Project in a Three-Part Series: Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III.
During Phase I, students will design the exterior of the small home and demonstrate their understanding of typical wood frame construction in houses by creating an exterior model with all structural framing elements represented.
During Phase II, a $6,000 Best Small Home Concept scholarship will be awarded by CHBA to a Wando High School 10th-12th grade student, to be used for continuing education within the housing industry. If the student is in 10th-11th grade, the money will be held until the end of their senior year. An official scholarship presentation will take place in May(TBD) at the Wando Engineering Showcase.
During Phase III, any student can participate in a Small Home Construction Summer Camp, regardless of participation in Phase I and II, where they will build the small home over a period of two weeks from Phase II’s Small Home Concept winner’s design. Please check out the Construction Summer Camp Information and Application tabs above.
